Basketball Game Preview: South Pontotoc Cougars vs. Itawamba Agricultural Indians

The South Pontotoc Cougars will face off against the Itawamba Agricultural Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Pontotoc will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

South Pontotoc is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They walked away with a 48-36 win over Kosciusko. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Whippets are ranked 94th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Itawamba Agricultural won against Northeast Lauderdale on Tuesday with 48 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. Itawamba Agricultural beat Northeast Lauderdale by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 48-42. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.

South Pontotoc's victory bumped their record up to 25-4. As for Itawamba Agricultural, their win bumped their record up to 18-8.

South Pontotoc came up short against Itawamba Agricultural when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 52-40. Can South Pontotoc avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
