Basketball Recap: St. Georges Tech Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Odessa

On Tuesday, St. Georges Tech faced Odessa in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The St. Georges Tech Hawks fell 58-50 to the Odessa Ducks. That makes it the first time this season the Hawks have let down their home crowd.

When it comes to explaining why St. Georges Tech lost, don't look at Joshua Obiora. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. The contest was Obiora's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Amere Rhoades, who posted eight points.

St. Georges Tech's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-4. As for Odessa, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Georges Tech will venture away from home to challenge Concord at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Odessa, they will challenge Appoquinimink at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Appoquinimink is on a three-game streak of home wins, Odessa a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
