Basketball Recap: Smoky Valley's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Smoky Valley's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 60-36 margin over the Chapman Irish. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their 11-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Smoky Valley was led to victory by Braylon Olson and Ty Heitschmidt. Olson went 7 of 11 en route to 19 points along with five assists and three steals, while Heitschmidt went 8 for 17 on his way to 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Heitschmidt a new career-high in blocks. Nicholas Carlson also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first boards of the season.

Chapman's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Cote-Boss, who posted five points. Jaysik Bauman was another key player, putting up four points.

Smoky Valley's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-6. As for Chapman, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Smoky Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-51 victory against Nickerson on the 17th. As for Chapman, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 84-26 loss against Rock Creek on the 17th.
