Baseball Recap: La Puente Comes Up Short

La Puente extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-12 in the process. They came up short against the Pomona Red Devils, falling 31-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, with their most recent loss being a 8-4 defeat on Tuesday.

As for Pomona, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by eight runs or more this season.

For Pomona's part, Noah Zayas was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Zayas was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other pitching news, Vince Huguez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Emmanuel Campos was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Leo Luna was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Puente will square off against Workman at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lobos have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.44 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pomona, they will take on Edgewood at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
