Baseball Recap: Veritas Prep Has No Trouble Against Santa Cruz Valley

After losing to Santa Cruz Valley the last time they met, Veritas Prep decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Dust Devils on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Falcons have won by exactly ten runs.

Cade Huseth was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Logan Cortes was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Mason, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Veritas Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Veritas Prep and bumps their season record up to 9-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Santa Cruz Valley, they dropped their record down to 13-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Veritas Prep will head out to face off against Tempe Prep at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.53 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Santa Cruz Valley, they will be playing at home against Miami at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
