Softball Recap: Sherwood Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Win

Sherwood had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Wednesday. They blew past Nelson 16-6. The Bowmen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Reese Gochenour made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Moore, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Evelyn Bui was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Sherwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nelson only posted an OBP of .290.

Sherwood's record is now 18-3. As for Nelson, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.

Sherwood will host Century at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Nelson, they will head out on the road to take on Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Nelson's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
