Recap: DePaul Cristo Rey vs. Walnut Ridge Scots
After a string of five wins, DePaul Cristo Rey's's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They received a tough blow as they fell 32-17 to Walnut Ridge. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points DePaul Cristo Rey has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why DePaul Cristo Rey lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jazmin Tubbs. Despite the final result, she scored two points along with 13 rebounds and six blocks. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Daizya White, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Walnut Ridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brenda Foreman, who scored five points.
DePaul Cristo Rey's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Walnut Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
DePaul Cristo Rey and Taft will round out the year against one another at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at. Taft is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Walnut Ridge, they will square off against Stivers School for the Arts at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Stivers School for the Arts has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
