Baseball Recap: Park City Sets Scoring Season-High Against Juan Diego Catholic

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Park City). Everything went their way against the Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle on Tuesday as Park City made off with a 17-6 win. Winning may never get old, but the Miners sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Colton Schmidt made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Park City got a massive performance out of Justin Michaelis, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Michaelis also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Park City is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 2-3 otherwise. Alex Brannigan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Park City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Park City pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Juan Diego Catholic, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Park City will have a chance to go back-to-back against Juan Diego Catholic: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
