Basketball Recap: Academy for Academic Excellence Takes a Loss

If Academy for Academic Excellence was riding high fresh off their 65-28 takedown of Norton Science & Language Academy last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Academy for Academic Excellence Knights were beaten by the Big Bear Bears 80-43 on Friday. The Knights lost against the Bears in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 72-61 score last time.

Big Bear's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aiden Brewer led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Brewer has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 13 times he's played. Savion Sorapuru was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.

Academy for Academic Excellence's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Big Bear, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-4.

Academy for Academic Excellence will square off against Silver Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Big Bear, they will face off against California Lutheran at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Big Bear has won five straight at home, while California Lutheran won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
