Clovis North took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-14 win over the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Broncos' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Panthers are ranked 142nd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clovis North to victory, but perhaps none more so than J R Cruz, who rushed for 155 yards and two TDs on only 12 carries. Lucas Smith was another key signal caller, throwing for 251 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Clovis North was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 308 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Joaquin Memorial only rushed for 113 rushing yards.
San Joaquin Memorial's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of John Mahoney, who picked up 67 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and Colton Johnson, who threw for 121 yards and one TD on only 11 passes.
Clovis North didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 38-34 victory against Redwood on the 29th. As for San Joaquin Memorial, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 27-25 win against Christian Brothers on the 29th.
