Basketball Preview: Columbia Blue Devils vs. Duanesburg Eagles

Columbia has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Duanesburg Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Even though Guilderland scored an imposing 55 points on Tuesday, Columbia still came out on top. Columbia enjoyed a cozy 72-55 victory over the Flying Dutchmen. Given Columbia's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Flying Dutchmen are ranked 177th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Duanesburg put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Mayfield with a sharp 73-48 win. Duanesburg pushed the score to 65-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers cut but never quite recovered from.

Columbia's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Duanesburg, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Columbia was able to grind out a solid win over the Eagles when the teams last played back in December of 2022, winning 55-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Columbia since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
