Basketball Recap: Monday's Victory Is South Laurel's 16th in Last 17 Outings

On Monday, the South Laurel Cardinals didn't have too much trouble with the Russell County Lakers as they won 56-41. The Cardinals pushed the score to 48-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lakers cut but never quite recovered from.

South Laurel found their leader in sophomore Skeeter Mabe, who on her way to 21 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Those 21 points gave Mabe a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Callie Jones, who posted nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.

South Laurel is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Russell County and nudges their season record down to 10-16.

South Laurel didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 86-18 win against Williamsburg on the 24th. As for Russell County, they have also already played their next contest, a 51-47 victory against Clinton County on the 23rd.
