Basketball Recap: Somerset Prep Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Somerset Prep and Westminster Academy squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Somerset Prep had to settle for second. They fell to the Westminster Academy Lions 44-38. Somerset Prep was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Westminster Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Somerset Prep lost, don't look at Riley Stoker. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards. Stoker is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 100% in the last three games she's played. Brianna Brown was another key player, putting up three points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Westminster Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Markeli Jones-Tynes, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards. Westminster Academy is 16-2 when Jones-Tynes posts ten or more rebounds, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Paige Langley, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Somerset Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 17-10. As for Westminster Academy, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-7.

Somerset Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 79-20 victory against True North Classical Academy on the 13th. As for Westminster Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 75-12 win against Chaminade-Madonna on the 13th.
