Aquinas has gone a perfect 7-0 against Sparta recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Blugolds will host the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Aquinas has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with six straight losses, while Sparta will come in with three straight wins.
Aquinas lost 7-1 to Melrose-Mindoro on Monday.
Abby Ziolkowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits.
On the hitting side, Aquinas saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Scholze, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Sparta sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Westby on Friday. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by just one run.
Sparta also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Annika Kichhoff gave up three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. Kichhoff has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Morgan Revels, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Aquinas' defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Sparta, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Aquinas came out on top in a nail-biter against Sparta in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Blugolds repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
