Preview: Westover Patriots vs. Shaw Raiders
Westover is 5-0 against Shaw since November of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Westover Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Shaw Raiders at 7:00 p.m.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 55-12, which was the final score in Westover's tilt against Cairo on Friday. While losing is never fun, Westover can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 230th, while Cairo is ranked 53rd).
Meanwhile, Shaw got themselves on the board against Hardaway last Thursday, but Hardaway never followed suit. They blew past the Hawks, posting a 30-0 victory at home. The result was nothing new for Shaw, who have now won three matchups by 30 points or more so far this season.
Nicholas Bates looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 194 yards and four touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. Ken Thornton also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Cairo's win bumped their season record to 8-1 while Westover's defeat dropped theirs to 4-5.
Everything came up roses for Westover against Shaw in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 31-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westover since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
