The Vestaburg Wolverines will be taking part in a tournament against the Webberville Spartans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Vestaburg has nine straight victories, Webberville has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Vestaburg is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Montabella on Thursday as they made off with a 20-5 win. Considering the Wolverines have won seven matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Sasha Page made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Page was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Megan Beetley and Addison Neelis did most of the damage at the plate: Beetley went 3-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and one double, while Neelis went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Neelis has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emma Myers, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.
Vestaburg hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Webberville didn't have quite enough to beat Breckenridge two weeks ago and fell 3-1.
Webberville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Lycos, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Vestaburg's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Webberville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Everything went Vestaburg's way against Webberville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Vestaburg made off with an 18-4 victory. Do the Wolverines have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
