California Top 25 high school boys basketball rankings: Despite loss, Sierra Canyon remains No. 1

Despite loss to nationally-ranked Paul VI, Sierra Canyon remains at the No. 1 spot; Four more wins keeps No. 3 Sheldon at top NorCal spot.

Even with a 70-62 loss to Paul VI (Fairfaix, Va.) at Monday's Hoop Hall Classic, Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) remains at the No. 1 spot in the MaxPreps California boys basketball rankings.

Paul VI is No. 11 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings and the game came down to the final minute.

Kentucky pledge Brandon Boston, Jr. led the Trailblazers with 20 points. Ziaire Williams added 15 points for Sierra Canyon, which had LeBron James watching son Bronny James before the Lakers played the Celtics on Monday night.

At the same showcase, previous No. 5 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) was upended 73-72 by Bishop O'Connell (Arlington, Va.) in the day's biggest upset as the Knights powered ahead with a 24-14 third-quarter surge. Mater Dei (16-5) also lost a 70-62 game this week to St. John Bosco (Bellflower), which moved into the rankings at No. 19. Mater Dei dropped to No. 11.



Northern California's top ranked team Sheldon (Sacramento) won four games last week and remained at the No. 3 spot behind No. 2 Centennial (Corona).
