Basketball Game Preview: Fairmont Cardinals vs. Worthington Trojans

Fairmont and Worthington are an even 4-4 against one another since November of 2014, but not for long. The Fairmont Cardinals will host the Worthington Trojans at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Fairmont is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Windom on Tuesday as Fairmont made off with a 95-75 win. The Cardinals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Worthington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a hard 74-58 fall against Jackson County Central. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Huskies are ranked 32nd).

Fairmont is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Worthington, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

Fairmont lost to Worthington at home by a decisive 64-46 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Fairmont avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
