Baseball Game Preview: Galesburg-Augusta Rams vs. Saugatuck Trailblazers

The Galesburg-Augusta Rams will face off against the Saugatuck Trailblazers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Saugatuck took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Galesburg-Augusta, who comes in off a win.

Galesburg-Augusta's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Martin as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.

Nate Ewert and Ethan Gibson did most of the damage at the plate: Ewert went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Gibson went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Galesburg-Augusta is undefeated when Gibson posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ashton Matrau, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Saugatuck's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Kellogg by a score of 6-4.

Saugatuck saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cass Stanberry, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Morgan Davis was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Galesburg-Augusta and bumps their season record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Saugatuck, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Galesburg-Augusta couldn't quite finish off Saugatuck in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
