The Grand Island Vikings will take on the Kenmore West Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Grand Island is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Grand Island didn't have quite enough to beat Lewiston-Porter and fell 4-3.
Grand Island saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addy Lewis, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, Kenmore West waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Lions.
Dani Hatch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 13 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Claire McGillicuddy, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last ten matchups. Another player making a difference was Ally Foglia, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Kenmore West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Kenmore West's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Grand Island, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Kenmore West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grand Island has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. It's a different story for Kenmore West, though, as they've been averaging 9.1 hits. Given Grand Island's sizable advantage in that area, the Blue Devils will need to find a way to close that gap.
Grand Island took their win against Kenmore West in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 14-3 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
