Softball Recap: Marquez Triumphs

It's playoff time, and Marquez had no trouble coming through when it counted. They won by a run and slipped past the Hamilton Yankees 2-1. The Gladiators have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Yankees on Wednesday, too.

Darla Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 19 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marquez saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alicia Aguirre, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Marquez and bumps their season record up to 19-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Hamilton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-8.

Marquez has already played their next contest, a 1-0 defeat against Verdugo Hills on the 22nd. Hamilton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
