Softball Recap: Millersport Gets the Win

Millersport and Madison Christian pushed the score to 12-11 the last time they played Madison Christian, but on Wednesday defenses reigned supreme. The Lakers had just enough and edged out the Eagles 2-1. The victory continues a trend for the Lakers in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.

Kendyl Bonkowski was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played.

Bonkowski wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emma Raver, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Millersport pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Madison Christian, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 14-4 record.

Millersport does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Madison Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge Delaware Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Delaware Christian has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.13 runs per game on average), something Madison Christian will no doubt try to take advantage of.
