Baseball Recap: Regents Gets the Win

Regents won against Brentwood Christian on Thursday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Knights beat the Bishop Dunne Falcons by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. Considering the Knights have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jack Buerkle was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Regents: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Blake Mott was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Regents' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Wood, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Regents was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was was before the start of last season.

The win got Regents back to even at 6-6. As for Bishop Dunne, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-19-1.

Regents will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Falcons: the pair will be back at it again later today.
