Male dropped their record down to 17-18 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 6-0 to the Lexington Catholic Knights. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 7-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

As for Lexington Catholic, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-8-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 6.6 runs.

For Lexington Catholic's part, Josh Edwards and Jack Sams dominated on the mound. Edwards pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Sams pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Edwards has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jack Hughes, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Bennie Lawrence was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Male will venture away from home to face off against Sayre at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lexington Catholic, they will head out to square off against Scott County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 3.8, the Cardinals 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
