Basketball Recap: Eastlake Takes a Loss

Eastlake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 61-41 to the Mayfield Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 278th in Texas, while the Trojans are ranked seventh in New Mexico).

Mayfield was led to victory by Ceanna Mckines and Jazlene Ruiz. Mckines went 7 of 17 on her way to 20 points and eight rebounds, while Ruiz dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Mckines also racked up three assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Lorrena Viarreal was another key player, putting up five points along with six assists and three steals.

Eastlake's loss dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Mayfield, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.

Eastlake will be playing in front of their home fans against Franklin at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Franklin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season. As for Mayfield, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 75-20 win against Del Valle on the 27th.
