Softball Recap: Franklin Comes Up Short at Home Against Cambridge Springs

Franklin unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cambridge Springs Devils on Wednesday. The Knights' defeat signaled the end of their undefeated season.

Jersey Swartz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Abigail Boland was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabrielle Laderer, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Coming up, Franklin will be playing in front of their home fans against Cranberry Area at 4:30 p.m. on March 26th. As for Cambridge Springs, they will venture away from home to square off against Mercer at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
