Softball Recap: Philomath Comes Up Short

Philomath extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 10-14. They lost 13-3 to the Cascade Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, with their most recent defeat being a 25-8 loss two weeks ago.

As for Cascade, they pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Cascade's part, Maddy Tingle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Tingle has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cassidy Crabtree, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Wright, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Philomath will venture away from home to face off against Newport at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cascade, they will head out to take on Stayton at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
