Softball Recap: North Greene's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but North Greene ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past the West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] Cougars 6-5. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Chelsey Casstleberry made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, North Greene let Brooklyn Sharrow and Jaycey Arnold run wild. Sharrow went 4-for-5 with four RBI and one double, while Arnold got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. Those four RBI gave Sharrow a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eva Schenck, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.

North Greene always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] only posted an OBP of .278.

North Greene's win bumped their record up to 3-12. As for West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs], they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Coming up, North Greene will square off against Tri-City at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs], they will challenge Seymour at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
