Basketball Game Preview: Blue Valley Rams vs. Doniphan West Mustangs

Blue Valley is 1-9 against Doniphan West since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Blue Valley Rams will head out to take on the Doniphan West Mustangs. Blue Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Blue Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They really took it to Wakefield for the full four quarters, racking up a 57-21 win. The Rams have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 22 points or more this season.

Brynlyn Brockman was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten steals. She is also on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Bryleigh Brockman was another key player, going 5 for 9 en route to 12 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Blue Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 13 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Doniphan West earned a 45-33 victory over Axtell on Tuesday. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Eagles are ranked 162nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Blue Valley pushed their record up to 7-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.0 points per game. As for Doniphan West, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season.

Things could have been worse for Blue Valley, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-36 loss to Doniphan West when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Blue Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
