Soccer Recap: Atkins Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Atkins can now relate to. They came up short against the Hickory Red Tornadoes on Monday, falling 7-2. While losing is never fun, Atkins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Hickory are ranked 47th).

William Roehrenbeck and Darian Pisapia scored both of Atkins' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 44 goals.

Atkins' loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Hickory, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3-3 record this season.

Atkins does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hickory, they will square off against East Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hickory's defense better be ready for this one: East Lincoln have averaged an impressive 3.9 goals per game this season.
