Basketball Recap: Andrew Holcomb Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Gulf Pointe Latin

L.E.A.D. Academy fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They came out on top against the Gulf Pointe Latin Gladiators by a score of 53-41 on Monday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lions also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

L.E.A.D. Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Andrew Holcomb out in front who posted 19 points and seven steals. Holcomb is becoming a predictor of L.E.A.D. Academy's success: when he posts at least five steals the team is 3-1 (and 1-15 when he doesn't). Landon Palmer was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards.

Despite the loss, Gulf Pointe Latin still got an impressive performance from Dean Fillmore, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Fillmore is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kyler Aikins, who went 5 of 11 en route to 13 points.

L.E.A.D. Academy's win bumped their record up to 4-16. As for Gulf Pointe Latin, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.

L.E.A.D. Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-44 loss against Rocky Bayou Christian on the 31st. As for Gulf Pointe Latin, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-41 victory against Santa Rosa Christian on the 28th.
