Softball Game Preview: DeKalb Barbs vs. Sycamore Spartans

The DeKalb Barbs will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Sycamore Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Sycamore will be up against a hot DeKalb team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. DeKalb came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 18-17 W against ITW David Speer Academy. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Barbs have posted since March 21, 2024.

The team relied heavily on Isabel Aranda, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and three doubles. Alaynna Johnson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

DeKalb hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, while Sycamore put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Harlem. Sycamore had just enough and edged out Harlem 1-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Sycamore's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for DeKalb, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
