Basketball Game Preview: Simmons Blue Devils vs. Leland Cubs

Simmons is 8-2 against Leland since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Simmons Blue Devils will venture away from home to face off against the Leland Cubs at 5:00 p.m. Simmons will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

Last Tuesday, everything came up roses for Simmons against West Bolivar as the team secured a 53-21 victory. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 22 points or more this season.

Simmons' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kristen Johnson, who posted nine points and eight steals. Those eight steals gave Johnson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sa'Riya Alexander, who put up 12 points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Meanwhile, Leland sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 40-38 victory over South Delta on Tuesday.

Simmons' win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Leland, their record is now 4-7.

Everything came up roses for Simmons against Leland in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 43-15 victory. Will Simmons repeat their success, or does Leland have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
