Recap: Spring Creek Spartans vs. Elko Indians
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fernley, the Spring Creek Spartans were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Elko out 31-29. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Spring Creek has posted yet this season.
Leading Spring Creek to victory were Brianna Dimick and Ryan Youngblood. Dimick scored nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Youngblood scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Dimick has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played.
Elko's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ecko Atkins, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Atkins has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bryleigh Cervantes, who scored six points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, Elko smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spring Creek only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Spring Creek's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-9. As for Elko, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spring Creek will take on Lowry at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Elko, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Churchill County at 6:00 p.m.
