Basketball Recap: Zuni Takes a Loss

Zuni was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were outmatched by the Navajo Prep Eagles and fell 77-42. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 94-56 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Zuni lost, don't look at Ty'Shawn Nieto. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds. Nieto also grabbed four steals, which is notable because Zuni is 4-2 when he posts at least three steals, but 7-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nathan Simplicio, who posted seven points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Zuni smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 13 consecutive contests.

Zuni's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Navajo Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Zuni wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 52-51 victory against Crownpoint on the 14th. As for Navajo Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 81-39 win against Wingate on the 14th.
