Basketball Recap: Escondido Adventist Academy Comes Up Short

Escondido Adventist Academy played a tough matchup on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 70-43 loss at the hands of the Calvin Christian Crusaders. The Hawks haven't had much luck with the Crusaders recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Escondido Adventist Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Zach Baker shot 43% from the field on his way to 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Baker has scored all season. Jenyo Ogungbe also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Calvin Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Lapka, who almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Lapka a new career-high in shooting accuracy (91%). Another player making a difference was Sawyer Goggin, who posted 21 points and five rebounds.

Escondido Adventist Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Calvin Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season.

Escondido Adventist Academy has already played their next contest (against Loma Linda Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
