Mt. Vernon has gone 6-1 against Westfield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Marauders will square off against the Shamrocks at 6:00 p.m. Mt. Vernon is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

Mt. Vernon couldn't beat Pendleton Heights on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Marauders took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Arabians.

Mt. Vernon got a good showing from Cora Rush, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits.

At the plate, Mt. Vernon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Breanna Laffey, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Emery Wampler was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Westfield faced Roncalli in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Shamrocks fell just short of the Royals by a score of 8-7. The Shamrocks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Reese Mahannah and Makayla Watson did some serious damage despite the final result: Mahannah went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Watson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Mt. Vernon's record now sits at 3-12. As for Westfield, their record is now 9-7.
