Basketball Recap: Tuscarawas Central Catholic Takes a Loss

Tuscarawas Central Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost to the Malvern Hornets at home by a 65-46 margin. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 759th, while the Hornets are ranked 199th).

Despite the loss, Tuscarawas Central Catholic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ethan Rothrock posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks. The dominant performance also gave Rothrock a new career-high in steals (two). Another player making a difference was Nate Wright, who had five points in addition to six boards and six steals.

Tuscarawas Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Malvern, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

Tuscarawas Central Catholic will face off against Newcomerstown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tuscarawas Central Catholic is facing Newcomerstown at the right time seeing as Newcomerstown is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Malvern, they will challenge Central Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Malvern knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Central Christian likes a good challenge.
