Softball Recap: Westbrook Extends Winning Streak to Three

Westbrook hadn't done well against Ira recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats blew past the Bulldogs 16-2. The win was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on three straight.

Westbrook got a massive performance out of Kenlee Gilbreath, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave Gilbreath a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zoey Alvarez, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.

Westbrook was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in nine consecutive matchups.

Westbrook pushed their record up to 6-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.0 runs over those games. As for Ira, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season.

Ira will be playing at home against Marfa at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Shorthorns have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.75 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. Westbrook will be paying especially close attention to Ira's contest: after Ira faces off against Marfa, they'll take on Westbrook again at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
