Baseball Recap: Northwestern Eagles vs. Marceline Tigers

Northwestern had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Marceline Tigers by a score of 9-8 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Northwestern of the 9-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2019.

For Marceline's part, Dax Thomas made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (he also only allowed one walk). Thomas has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive pitching appearances. Thomas was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Cody Rodgers was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Barrett Stearns, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
