Bishop Manogue heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Wednesday. They came up short against Reed, falling 9-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Bishop Manogue saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kiki Harris, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Damonte Ranch faced Galena in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Grizzlies 9-8. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Madeline Wackowski was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Mares, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Damonte Ranch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Damonte Ranch's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-16. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Manogue, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-10-1.
Damonte Ranch's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bishop Manogue has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Damonte Ranch, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Bishop Manogue's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
