Baseball Game Preview: Muir Mustangs vs. Crescenta Valley Falcons

Muir is 0-10 against Crescenta Valley since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. Muir will venture away from home to take on Crescenta Valley at 6:00 p.m.

Muir came up short against Burroughs on Friday, falling 8-1. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly seven runs.

Muir saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arturo Ayers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Fletcher Paddock also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Crescenta Valley waltzed into their match on Saturday with 11 straight wins... but they left with 12. They came out on top against the Crusaders by a score of 6-3. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Sam Sellars looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dashiell Schultz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Travis Phillips, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Crescenta Valley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mater Dei Catholic struck out seven times.

Crescenta Valley pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Muir, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5.

Muir might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Crescenta Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Muir avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
