Football Preview: Rye Garnets vs. Brewster Bears
The Rye Garnets will challenge the Brewster Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rye is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Rye's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 24-0 margin over Harrison. The Garnets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 21 points or more this season.
Meanwhile, Brewster has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 11.25 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They fell 31-24 to Yorktown. One positive for the Bears, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Brewster might have lost, but man, Chase Prohaszka was a machine: he rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 89 yards and a touchdown. Prohaszka really tore up the turf during one magnificent 77-yard run. Tre Ficarra was another key rusher, gaining 135 total yards.
Even though they lost, Brewster was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 207 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2023.
Rye pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Brewster, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-3.
