Basketball Recap: Great Hearts Irving Find Success

Great Hearts Irving had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They escaped with a win on Saturday against the Newman International Academy Warriors by the margin of a single free throw, 55-54. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Great Hearts Irving's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jakes Maundu, who posted 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of John Cotter, who scored ten points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Great Hearts Irving is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Newman International Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-15.

Great Hearts Irving will head out to challenge International Leadership of Texas Keller at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. International Leadership of Texas Keller has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Newman International Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
