Volleyball Recap: East Central Takes a Loss

East Central lost against Johnson back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Hornets came up short against the Jaguars, falling 3-0. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

East Central was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-17.

Their offense was headlined by Kayla Massey and Leilani Lusia, who picked up ten kills apiece. They got some help from Farrah Funari and her 17 assists. Finally, Phoenix Vaughn kept East Central's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Rileigh Butler was the offensive standout of the contest as she had 13 digs and two aces. She is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last five games she's played.

East Central's defeat dropped their record down to 19-10. As for Johnson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-7 record this season.

East Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 loss against Clemens on the 26th. Johnson has also already played their next contest (against Judson), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
