Softball Recap: Paul VI Wins Going Away Against the Academy of the Holy Cross

Paul VI won the last time they faced The Academy of the Holy Cross and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Tartans. Considering the Panthers have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Presley Gatlin made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Gatlin was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other pitching news, Elizabeth Sullivan looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Natalie Monroe, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. McKenna Drawbaugh was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Paul VI was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Paul VI and bumps their season record up to 4-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for The Academy of the Holy Cross, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
