South Gibson fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Dyer County on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Choctaws by a score of 4-3. The Hornets' loss signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.

Gage Allen put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since April 1st. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

South Gibson's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 22-6. As for Dyer County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-9-1.

Looking ahead, South Gibson will host Chester County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Dyer County, they are taking a road trip to take on Marion at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
