Basketball Recap: Freedom Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

If Freedom was riding high fresh off their 85-55 takedown of Ashe County last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Freedom Patriots took a 77-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Watauga Pioneers on Wednesday. The Patriots were not able to make up for their loss to the Pioneers from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Watauga got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jace Blocker out in front who went 9 for 10 en route to 21 points. Another player making a difference was Cade Keller, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 24 points.

Freedom's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-3. As for Watauga, their record is now 10-6.

Freedom and Watauga should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Freedom will square off against Alexander Central at 8:00 p.m. on Friday up 166 places (99 vs. 265). Freedom is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road. Similarly, Watauga (ranked 173rd) will meet Ashe County (ranked 435th) at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
