Basketball Game Preview: Troy Trojans vs. Rock Hills Grizzlies

The Troy Trojans will challenge the Rock Hills Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Troy comes in on nine and Rock Hills on seven.

Troy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with a 59-50 victory over Blue Valley. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Rams are ranked 149th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Harper Whetstine, who shot 48% from the field on her way to 43 points along with eight boards and eight steals. The contest was her 20th in a row with at least 15 points. Emerson Weber was another key player, putting up six points.

Meanwhile, Rock Hills made easy work of Burlingame on Saturday and carried off a 60-37 win. The Grizzlies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 23 points or more this season.

Troy better focus on containing Bethany Simmelink and Halle Mizner as the pair were huge in Rock Hills' win. Simmelink went 9-for-14 to rack up 27 points in addition to seven steals and five assists, while Mizner dropped a double-double with 25 points and 16 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Mizner a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynlee Manning, who posted six points.

Rock Hills' victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.4 points on average over those games. As for Troy, their win bumped their record up to 19-1.
