The Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks will head out to challenge the Albany Academy for Boys Cadets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Coxsackie-Athens is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Coxsackie-Athens' pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Watervliet 14-0. The victory continues a trend for the Riverhawks in their matchups with the Cannoneers: they've now won five in a row.

Brendan Woytowich was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Coxsackie-Athens got a massive performance out of Alex Slater, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Slater a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Sager, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Albany Academy for Boys suffered their closest defeat since May 1, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of La Salle Institute by a score of 8-6. Albany Academy for Boys has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Coxsackie-Athens, Albany Academy for Boys also got a great game from a two-way player: Ben Dalto. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Dalto was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Dalto wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Willie Kimbler, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Albany Academy for Boys' loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Coxsackie-Athens, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Coxsackie-Athens has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Albany Academy for Boys struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
